Slovakia Inflation Unchanged In May

Consumer price inflation in Slovakia remained steady at 1.7 percent in May, the latest figures from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovakia showed Thursday.

Core inflation was at 1.8 percent in May, unchanged from April. Net inflation, that excludes changes in indirect taxes, eased marginally to 1.1 percent from 1.2 percent in the previous month.

Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose at a faster pace of 4.4 percent in May compared with a 4.1 percent in the preceding month. Costs of alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose 2.3 percent from last year.

Clothing and footwear prices increased 0.5 percent and utility costs rose 0.4 percent. At the same time, transport charges decreased 1.6 percent on an annual basis.

Month-on-month, the consumer price index rose 0.l percent, data showed.
