Metric, Tegan & Sara and Purity Ring have all been announced as nominees for the 2013 Polaris Prize. The honor goes to the Canadian Album of the Year as voted by a panel of 200 journalists. Sales are not considered among the merits for an LP.
Metric got the nod for their latest effort, Synthetica, while T&S were recognized for their Heartthrob. Purity Ring's Shrines, Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!, Besnard Lakes' Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO and AC Newman of the New Pornographers' solo effort Shut Down the Streets, also made the cut.
"This year's long list is all over the map, but in the best possible way," Steve Jordan, Polaris founder and executive director, said in a statement.
"A lot of our jury expressed that this was the most difficult Polaris ballot they've ever submitted. The results of this careful and passionate deliberation will make for some truly engaging listening for music lovers," he added.
