Poland's Current Account Turns To Surplus In April

Poland's current account turned to a surplus in April from a deficit in the previous month, data released by the National Bank of Poland showed Monday.

The balance in the current account was a surplus of EUR468 million in April, compared to a deficit of EUR200 million in March. Economists were looking for a shortfall of EUR15 million. In April 2012, the balance was a deficit of EUR655 million.

The goods trade account showed a surplus of EUR601 million, after recording a shortfall of EUR273 million a month earlier. The surplus in the services account increased to EUR545 million in April from EUR481 million in March.

The balance of the income account was a deficit of EUR1.47 billion during the month, which was slightly higher than EUR1.44 billion seen in March. The current transfers surplus decreased to ERU795 million from EUR1.03 billion, data showed.
