Police in Seattle are investigating a break in at a home where the suspected burglar used the doggie door to gain entry into the home, KATU is reporting.
The robbery took place in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.
Police found no signs of forced entry and after investigation, determined that the thief entered through the 15 inch by 10 inch doggie door.
"They didn't come through any of the windows or doors, and so the dog door is the only other opening in the house," homeowner Joel, who withheld his last name, said.
"It's not big - so it has to be somebody relatively small and willing to scrunch through the hole."
The family was robbed of laptops, an iPad, Kindle and jewelry.
"We've joked about doing the 'Home Alone' scenario where we'd booby-trap the house with various things to get whoever crawls through that door," Joel said.
The family wants to keep the doggie door so they may invest in a security system, KOMO is reporting.
Pet doors can now be fitted with electronic transmitters and locks that allow the door to only be open through a signal in the pet's collar.
