While Hillary Clinton has not officially announced her intention to run for president in 2016, the former Secretary of State has already picked up a high profile endorsement from Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.

In a statement released on Tuesday, McCaskill announced her support for Ready for Hillary, an independent political action committee urging Clinton to run for president.

"Hillary Clinton had to give up her political operation while she was making us proud, representing us around the world as an incredible Secretary of State, and that's why Ready for Hillary is so critical," McCaskill said.

She added, "It's important that we start early, building a grassroots army from the ground up, and effectively using the tools of the Internet - all things that President Obama did so successfully - so that if Hillary does decide to run, we'll be ready to help her win."

McCaskill, who was an early backer of President Barack Obama's primary campaign, said in February that she hoped Clinton would run.

Since stepping down as Secretary of State, Clinton has been deliberately coy about whether she intends to run for president in 2016.

Many political observers were quick to point out that Clinton's recently launched Twitter account indicates that her future plans are "To Be Determined."

While Clinton's reputation has taken a hit due to criticism of the administration's handling of last September's deadly attacks in Benghazi, she is still considered the early frontrunner for the Democratic nomination.
