National Security Agency Director Keith Alexander told a House committee meeting on Tuesday that more than 50 terror plots had been foiled due to the secret surveillance programs uncovered and made public by Edward Snowden.
The USA Today reports that over 10 of the plots foiled involved attacks on U.S. soil, including one plot to attack the New York Stock Exchange.
"In recent years, these programs, together with other intelligence, have protected the U.S. and our allies from terrorist threats across the globe to include helping prevent the terrorist — the potential terrorist events over 50 times since 9/11," Alexander said, reports The Washington Post.
Alexander added at the meeting that he would provide more details on the terror plots he cited to lawmakers in a classified setting on Wednesday.
Currently, Snowden, the former defense contractor who leaked the information, is staying in Hong Kong in the hopes of avoiding extradition back to the U.S.
