The Labor Department said its jobless claims rose 354,000 in the week ended June 15th. Economists expected claims to rise to 340,000 from 334,000 in the previous week.
The dollar held steady against its major rivals after the report. As of 8:32 am ET, the greenback was trading at 1.3207 against the euro, 97.73 against the yen, 0.9320 against the Swiss franc and 1.5470 against the pound.
