A gas explosion in the Argentinian city of Rosario killed 12 people, injured 62 and damaged three buildings, the Buenos Aires Herald is reporting.
Officials say at least 12 people are still missing from the blast Tuesday in the central part of the city. The explosion is believed to be caused by a gas leak from the building's central heating system.
"We were told that electric works were being carried out and that the cauldron was off," a resident said.
Authorities confirmed that many victims are still trapped and crews are continuing to rescue the victims.
Rosario Mayor Monica Fein said 17 ambulances were working at the blast scene and nearby buildings have been evacuated.
National Security Secretary Sergio Berni and Cabinet Chief Juan Manuel Abal Medina offered their assistance to the community.
Fein also said that members of the Special Rescue Group of the Federal Police were en route from Buenos Aires to assist in the search and rescue operation.
