United Airlines July Traffic Down 1.1%

United Airlines, a unit of United Continental Holdings, Inc. (UAL), Wednesday said its traffic for July 1.1 percent as capacity also dropped 1.8 percent from a year ago.

Traffic, measured as revenue passenger miles, for July decreased 1.1 percent to 19.69 billion RPM from 19.91 billion RPM last year.

Capacity, measured as available seat miles, decreased 1.8 percent to 22.58 billion ASM from 23.00 billion ASM last year.

UAL's load factor for July increased 0.6 points to 87.2 percent from 86.6 percent in July 2012.

Mortgage rates continued their upward trend this week and hit a seven-year high, even as housing demand remained robust. According to data released Thursday by mortgage finance provider Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 4.66 percent in the week ending May 24, from 4.61 percent in the prior week and 3.95 percent a year ago.
