The police on Saturday dismantled a massive human-trafficking ring with operations in Spain and France, which is suspected to have been engaged in the smuggling of Chinese citizens into European countries and the United States, media reports said.
At least 75 persons, suspected to have been involved in the crime, have been arrested in Spain and France. The operators allegedly collected EUR 40,000 from each of the victim, who mainly comprised immigration aspirants from Asian countries.
The police have also seized fake identity documents and passports in large numbers, which were used to transport the victims.
Some of the migrants were also reported to have been subjected to sexual exploitation, and the traffickers are suspected to be having links to a prostitution ring.
The structure of the organization, which had its main office in China and independent cells spread in different countries, has made the investigation complicated, the police said.
