Doctors are describing what happened to a West Carroliton, Ohio, man as a miracle after he was declared dead for almost an hour and then started showing signs of life, WHIO reports.
Tony Yahle, 37, was declared dead on Aug. 5 after his heart had stopped beating for 45 minutes.
Yahle's wife called 911 after her husband seemed to have trouble breathing while he slept.
Paramedics tried to get his heart beating again but he was declared dead after it had stopped beating for nearly an hour.
Nurses were preparing to show Yahle's family his body when he began to show signs of life.
He was taken by medical helicopter to The Ohio State University hospital where he awoke five days later.
"I have no memory of anything," Yahle said. "I went to bed … woke up five days later in the hospital."
Doctors do not know what caused Yahle's heart to stop in the first place but were shocked by the results.
"In the last 20 years, I've never seen anybody we have pronounced dead … and then for him to come back … I've never seen it," Dr. Raja Nazir, a cardiologist, said.
