Austria's Trade Deficit Unchanged In August

Austria's merchandise trade shortfall stayed broadly unchanged in August, data released by Statistics Austria showed Friday.

Overall foreign trade resulted in a deficit of EUR0.91 billion in August, which was broadly unchanged from the balance recorded in the same month of last year.

Goods exports decreased 6.3 percent year-on-year to EUR9 billion during the month. Shipments to the European Union (EU)fell 5 percent, and dispatches to countries outside the EU dropped 9 percent.

The value of imports decreased 5.7 percent annually to EUR9.92 billion in August. Arrivals from the EU and non-EU countries fell 5.1 percent and 7.2 percent respectively.

During the January-August period, Austria's exports moved up 0.6 percent from the corresponding period of last year, while imports fell by 2.6 percent. The trade balance was a deficit of EUR3.44 billion.
