Utah Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah, will deliver the Tea Party response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address next week, the movement's largest political action committee Tea Party Express announced on Tuesday.
Lee, who played a key role in last year's budget showdown over Obamacare that resulted in the government shutdown, is expected to speak following the official Republican response.
The Tea Party response will be streamed online at teapartyexpress.org and is also likely to be carried by some cable news outlets.
"For the Tea Party movement, 2014 is not just about taking back the Senate, but it is also about putting forward conservative ideas that will allow for America to prosper," Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer said in a statement.
"Senator Mike Lee has been both a Tea Party hero for supporters across the nation, and a conservative leader in the upper chamber," she added. "He has introduced tangible policy solutions to some of America's biggest problems."
Lee will join previous Tea Party speakers Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain, and Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.
Republicans have yet to reveal who will deliver their response to Obama's address next Tuesday. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., delivered the GOP response in 2013.
