James Hetfield is set to lend his voice to The Hunt, a new eight part series on the History Channel. The program chronicles the annual controlled hunt in Alaska for Kodiak brown bears, which can grow to 12-feet tall and weight in at some 1,500 pounds.
The centuries-old tradition, which dates back to the region's early Alutiiq people, features thousands of sportsmen applying to participate in the Kodiak Island hunt, with fewer than 500 lottery-system passes handed out.
The hunt normally lasts a period of 10 days. The Hunt airs on the History Channel beginning June 8 at 10pm.
Hetfield and Metallica will begin work on a new studio album this fall. The LP will be the band's first in six years - since 2008's Death Magnetic.
