The United States shut down its embassy in Libya on Saturday and evacuated its diplomats to neighboring Tunisia on security concerns in Tripoli, reports said.
It is reportedly said that US has evacuated about 150 personnel from the embassy on Saturday morning, including 80 U.S. Marines, as security situation deteriorated.
Clashes are going on in Tripoli between rival militias. The location of US embassy is in very close proximity to intense fighting and ongoing violence, media reports stated.
The embassy operations are said to be suspended until the security situation has improved. This is the second time in about three years that US has closed its embassy in Libya.
Amid intense fighting at Tripoli airport, it was a real risk to staff.
