As tropical storm Erika approaches, Florida declared a state of emergency. The storm is expected to hit on late Sunday or early Monday, probably at the southern part of the State.

The state Governor Rick Scott attended a briefing at the State Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee, before issuing the order. The emergency order noted that the Erika poses a severe threat to the entire State of Florida and requires timely precautions. The state will be fully alert to protect critical infra structure and communities. The emergency will be effective for all the counties in the state.

In the order, Governor noted that the Director of the Division of Emergency Management will be the State Coordinating Officer and he will execute the State's comprehensive emergency management plan.

In the Caribbean, 12 people were killed in heavy flooding after the Storm hit the Island.
