Amid ongoing complaints about a lack of transparency from the White House, Congressman John Sarbanes, D-Md., accused President Donald Trump's family of setting "a new standard of ethical blindness."
"Just when you think you've seen it all, Trump offers something else that's even more outrageous and even more troubling," Sarbanes said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday.
CNN noted the comments by Sarbanes come following reports Trump's daughter Ivanka secured two patents in China for her clothing line following a dinner meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Sarbanes, a member of the House Oversight Committee, told CNN almost all of the questions about the Trump family's global financial ties could be answered if the president would release his tax returns.
"We don't know what the potential of that is because there is so little transparency," Sarbanes said. "This thing with Ivanka, you can kind of view it as a tip of the iceberg."
Earlier this week, White House Press Secretary said Trump would still not release his returns because of an ongoing IRS audit.
Trump repeatedly cited the audit as a reason for not releasing his returns during the presidential campaign, although the IRS has said an audit would not prevent him from releasing his returns.
