Coffee giant Starbucks has added a Unicorn-Colored Frappuccino to its menu this week. The limited edition iced drink will be available at participating Starbucks stores in the US, Mexico and Canada from April 19 to 23, the company said.
Joining the 'unicorn food' craze, the new colorful drink is made with a sweet dusting of pink powder, blended into a crème Frappuccino with mango syrup and layered with a pleasantly sour blue drizzle. It is finished with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of sweet pink and sour blue powder topping. The drink reportedly was once on Starbucks' secret menu.
Starbucks said, "The Unicorn Frappuccino Blended Beverage is a color-changing, flavor-changing, sweet and pleasantly sour spectacle, here for only a few days."
Unicorn food is an internet craze, featuring pictures of and recipes for brightly-coloured food in pastel and rainbow hues. These supposedly represent colours found on the mythical creatures.
"Like its mythical namesake, the Unicorn Frappuccino blended crème comes with a bit of magic, starting as a purple beverage with swirls of blue and a first taste that is sweet and fruity. But give it a stir and its color changes to pink, and the flavor evolves to tangy and tart. The more swirl, the more the beverage's color and flavors transform," the company said in its statement.
Before Starbucks' announcement, its employees at various stores posted images of the drinks on social media.
Speculations about the new drink started circulating earlier this month after one Starbucks employee posted a photo of a package of pink powder.
