The Venezuelan government through state-owned oil company PdVSA donated $500,000 to President Donald Trump's inauguration fund.
Although, foreign donations are banned under US law, PdVSA made the donation through a US affiliate Citgo Petrol. The Venezuelan government made the donation in December despite on-going economic and political crisis in the country which has witnessed a rising death toll and food and medicine shortages.
Venezuela, oil-rich country which heavily depended on the energy industry, has been in economic crisis since the fall in oil prices in 2014. Inflation in the country has sky-rocketed to over 800 percent.
