VENEZUELA: Russia Supports Constituent Assembly And Criticizes Sanctions

(Agencia CMA Latam) - Unlike many other countries, the Russian government supported Venezuela's National Constituent Assembly (ANC). According to Moscow, the move will allow the South American country to make progress towards stabilization.

Russia considers that, despite the very logic of the development of events and calls to "democratize" the procedures that are taking place in Venezuela, "several internal and external forces continue to promote a destructive line aimed at dismantling the tools for dialogue."

In the statement released by Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moscow also criticizes the countries that are imposing sanctions against the President Nicolás Maduro's government.

"It's hard to assess in any other way the fondness of several countries for unilateral sanctions, isolation measures, methods of pressure with ultimatums against Caracas. We do not believe that such actions contribute to constructive ends," Moscow said.

In the statement, Russia also stressed that peace in Venezuela "continues to depend on the readiness of all parties to resume dialogue within the framework of the Constitution, without foreign interference."
