Target Set For Holiday Hiring Frenzy

Discount-store operator Target Corp. (TGT) is gearing up for the upcoming holiday season by saying it plans to hire about 100,000 seasonal workers across the country. This marks a significant increase from last year, when it hired 70,000 seasonal workers.

This is to ensure that Target's 1,816 stores will be staffed this holiday season to help guests directly or to fulfill online orders.

In addition, Target will hire 4,500 workers for its distribution and fulfillment centers to replenish products to stores and to fulfill online orders throughout the season.

"Target has made significant investments in our business throughout 2017, and our commitment to hire 100,000 team members for the holidays will make shopping at Target even easier and more fun during one of the busiest times of the year," Janna Potts, chief stores officer of Target said.

Target will offer certain benefits to the seasonal workers, including market-competitive wages, a 10 percent merchandise discount at Target and Target.com, and an additional 20 percent merchandise wellness discount for fruits and vegetables, as well as all Simply Balanced and C9 merchandise.

A variety of schedules will allow the seasonal workers to work various hours, the retailer said.

Target will host hiring events at all its stores nationwide from Friday, October 13 to Sunday, October 15.

The events will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day for the 100,000 store positions, with the potential for eligible applicants to interview on-the-spot and receive a conditional job offer during the weekend events.

Candidates for Target's seasonal positions can apply today in advance at TargetSeasonalJobs.com.

During the second quarter, Target had registered comparable digital channel sales growth of 32 percent, on top of 16 percent growth in the year-ago period.
