The Swiss Stock Market Ended The Day Unchanged

The Swiss stock market ended Wednesday's session unchanged, following four straight days of gains. There was little news to drive the markets higher and traders were in a cautious mood ahead of Thursday's Bank of England announcement.

The SMI finished Wednesday's session unchanged at 9,053.83. The Swiss Leader Index fell 0.04 percent and the Swiss Performance Index also slid 0.04 percent.

Vifor Pharma was the top gainer of the session, with an increase of 1.1 percent.

Credit Suisse advanced 1.0 percent and UBS added 0.2 percent.

SGS climbed 0.9 percent and Adecco gained 0.8 percent.

Among the index heavyweights, Roche increased 0.3 percent and Novartis added 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, Nestlé surrendered 0.3 percent.

Swatch tumbled 3.9 percent. The stock was under pressure after Apple revealed a new generation of Apple Watch. Richemont also weakened by 1.2 percent despite reporting a 12 percent increase in sales at constant exchange rates for the five months ended 31 August 2017.

In the broad market, chipmaker AMS sank 3.9 percent after Apple said it would not ship its new iPhone X until November.
