A new analysis selects Alaska Airlines as the best domestic airline for Elite Status.

According to credit-card rewards website The Points Guy, Alaska offers the best perks to its frequent flyers under airline loyalty program, beating out those offered by five competing domestic companies.

The travel site, which specializes in credit card and airline reviews, evaluated the six largest U.S.-based airlines. The analysis was based on in-flight benefits, fee waivers, bonuses, airport perks, flexible perks, non-flying perks, partner perks and reservation perks.

United Airlines came as second best frequent flyer program. Delta Air Lines was in third place, followed by American in fourth, JetBlue Airways in fifth, and Southwest Airlines in sixth.

The Points Guy analyst Nick Ewen stated that Alaska' top spot was mainly because it offers elite status based on miles rather than spending. In the list, Alaska is the only airline that awards frequent flyer miles based on distance flown rather than how much money the traveler spends.

As per the study, United actually carries more benefits than Alaska when it comes to busy travelers who fly more than 125,000 miles or spend $15,000 annually.

The Points Guy also released a tool to help consumers find the best elite program for their lifestyle.
