Country singer Jason Aldean has canceled his weekend shows in California in the wake of the deadly Las Vegas mass shooting.

59 people were killed and over 500 others injured after a gunman opened fire on a large crowd who were attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Aldean was singing at the open-air country music concert at the time of the attack.

The country has not recovered from the shock of the deadliest attack in modern American history.

In a statement Tuesday, Aldean said he is canceling this weekend's shows out of respect for the victims, their families and his fans.

"It has been an emotional time for everyone involved this week, so we plan to take some time to mourn the ones we have lost and be close with our family and friends," he added.

Aldean was scheduled to stage country music shows as part of his 'They Don't Know Tour' in Los Angeles on Friday, in San Diego on Saturday, and in Anaheim on Sunday.

The tour will resume on October 12 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

"Our first time back on stage will be a very tough and emotional thing for us, but we will all get through it together and honor the people we lost by doing the only thing we know how to do - play our songs for them," Jason said.

He said refunds are available at point of purchase for the canceled shows.

Separately, Jason will be performing at a benefit concert to support those in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and other Caribbean islands who have been impacted by the recent hurricanes. The event, named Country Rising, will be held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on November 12.
