Trump Slams Media Coverage Of Puerto Rico Trip

President Donald Trump has offered harsh criticism of some media coverage of his trip to Hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.

In a pair of posts to Twitter on Wednesday, Trump described some coverage of his visit to the island as "fake news."

"A great day in Puerto Rico yesterday. While some of the news coverage is Fake, most showed great warmth and friendship," Trump tweeted.

He added, "Wow, so many Fake News stories today. No matter what I do or say, they will not write or speak truth. The Fake News Media is out of control!"

The tweets from Trump come as the administration has faced criticism for the federal response to Hurricane Maria.

Trump has suggested that the island's geography and certain Puerto Rican leaders are to blame for the slow recovery.

During his trip to Puerto Rico, Trump helped distribute supplies while also indicating that the recovery effort has thrown the budget "a little out of whack."

Trump told Fox News' Geraldo Rivera during an interview on Tuesday that Puerto Rico's debt would need to be wiped out.

"We have to look at their whole debt structure," Trump said. "They owe a lot of money to your friends on Wall Street and we're going to have to wipe that out."

The president is due to follow up his visit to Puerto Rico with a trip to Las Vegas on Wednesday on the heels of the mass shooting that left nearly 60 people dead.
