Gold Steady Ahead Of Fed Speakers, Jobs Report

Gold futures were flat for third day Thursday morning as traders geared up for the all-important September jobs report tomorrow.

In the meantime, markets will be paying attention to a litany of Federal Reserve speakers for clues about interest rates.

Jerome Powell, a leading candidate to become the next Fed chief, speaks at 9:20 am ET.

Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker will make a speech at a Fed conference in Austin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern. Kansas City Fed President Esther George will speak at 4:30 p.m. Eastern.

In economic news yesterday, the U.S. private sector added only 135,000 jobs in September, ADP data showed.

Dec. gold was up $2 at $1279 an ounce, having steadied from losses at the start of the month.
