10 Most Expensive Private Schools In The U.S.

Street smarts may be overrated. Why else would you send Muffy or Preston to a $60,000 a year private school?

Private schools are characterized by a student teacher ratio that is less than half the national average, and have students from relatively affluent families. But they are different in other ways.

Some are boarding schools, some are day schools. There are all-boys', all-girls' and co-educational schools.

The oldest school in the country is on this list, and so is a school that opened as recently as in 2012. Most are in the leafy northeast, within a quick helicopter ride to the Berkshires or the Hamptons.

To enable a fair comparison across all types of private schools, the ranking has been done on the basis of annual tuition fees in U.S. dollars that do not include boarding fees.
