COLOMBIA: UN Approves Resolution To Verify ELN Ceasefire

(Agencia CMA Latam) - The United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution establishing a mission to monitoring and verifying the compliance with the bilateral ceasefire agreement between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group.

According to the resolution, the U.N. Mission in Colombia will take part until January 8 as an international component and coordinator in the monitoring mechanism of the temporary ceasefire made up of members of the ELN, the government, and the Catholic Church.

Up to 70 international observers will be added to the mission that currently verifies the process of reincorporation of ex-combatants of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), now converted into a political party, into civilian life.
