Trump Approval Remains Low Despite Positive Views Of Economy

While voters offered a positive assessment of the economy in a new Quinnipiac University national poll, a majority of voters still disapprove of the way President Donald Trump is handling his job.

The poll found that 61 percent of voters described the state of the nation's economy as "excellent" or "good," close to an all-time high. Thirty-seven percent described the economy as "not so good" or "poor."

Seventy-three percent of voters also described their personal financial situation as "excellent" or "good" compared to just 26 percent that said it is "not so good" or "poor."

However, voters are divided on Trump's handling of the economy, as 48 percent approve and 46 percent disapprove.

The poll also found that a majority of voters continue to disapprove of Trump's overall job performance. Fifty-six percent said they disapprove, while 38 percent approve.

Trump has strong support among Republicans and gets positive ratings from white voters with no college degree and white men, but every other listed party, gender, education, age and racial group disapproves.

"After a turbulent stretch of heartbreaking tragedies, President Donald Trump is still deep in negative territory," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

"President Trump may not be fit, but the economy is, voters say," he added. "They remain troubled by the president's competence, but see the economy booming along under his stewardship."

The Quinnipiac survey of 1,482 voters was conducted October 5th through 10th and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
