Fiona Apple Jams With Shirley Manson In L.A.

Fiona Apple hit the stage with Garbage star Shirley Manson for a performance at the Girlschool festival at the Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles earlier this week. The pair performed a rendition of Leslie Gore's "You Don't Own Me."

Throughout the show Apple wore a handmade t-shirt jabbing at the embattled head of the Record Academy Neil Portnow.

Portnow has come under scrutiny since the Grammys for a statement in which he said that women need to do a better job to "step up" for equality in the music industry. In protest, Apple wore a shirt that read "Kneel Portnow." She follows many female stars calling for his resignation including Pink, who recently stated:

"Women in music don't need to 'step up,'" Pink wrote on Twitter. "Women have been stepping up since the beginning of time. Stepping up, and also stepping aside . . . When we celebrate and honor the talent and accomplishments of women, and how much women step up every year, against all odds, we show the next generation of women and girls and boys and men what it means to be equal."
