Stone Temple Pilots welcomed very special guest Johnny Depp on stage with them during their recent tour kick off show. The band hit the stage at The Canyon in Santa Clarita, California and welcomed the Hollywood Vampires rocker on stage with open arms.

Depp joined the band for a pair of songs during their encore. They performed "Sex Type Thing" and took on a cover of "Kick Out The Jams" by MC5.

It's the band's first tour with new singer Jeff Gutt and Dean DeLeo says finding the right member was critical for the band's survival:

"If we didn't find the person we felt we could move forward with, we ultimately would have put a fork in it. There was no room for error. That's why we spent nearly a year together with Jeff before we invited him to join the band. We wanted to make sure it was the right decision. But we did find somebody who could not ony do the catalog of our previous songs justice, but someone we could write new songs with, too."
