India's Industrial Production Growth Tops Expectations

India's industrial production grew more than expected in February, data published by the Central Statistics Office revealed Thursday.

Industrial output grew 7.1 percent year-on-year in February, bigger than the expected 6.8 percent expansion. Nonetheless, the pace of growth was weaker than the 7.4 percent increase posted in January.

Manufacturing grew 8.7 percent and electricity output advanced 4.5 percent. Meanwhile, mining output fell 0.3 percent.

In April to February period, industrial production increased 4.3 percent compared to 4.7 percent in the same period of last year.
