COLOMBIA: Despite New Cases, Country Keeps FMD-free Status

(Agencia CMA Latam) - Colombian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Juan Guillermo Zuluaga confirmed that the country kept its sanitary status as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease through vaccination, despite the new cases recently detected in the national territory.

The statement was made after an official statement by the World Organization for Animal Health, OIE, which congratulated Colombia for the transparency through which it handled the recent case in Arauca.

In that instance, cattle smuggled in from Venezuela were slaughtered, and control measures were put in place to detect the illegal entry of bovines into its territory.
