The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has launched a new blockchain-based ticketing system, which will make the ticket sales process for matches more simple and safe. The system also helps prevent duplication of tickets.

The new system was fully deployed by UEFA as they distributed 100% of the match tickets for this week's UEFA Super Cup match between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid in Tallinn.

UEFA sold the match tickets to the general public using blockchain-based dedicated iOS and android app.

A blockchain-based distribution system combined with mobile Bluetooth devices is used at the stadium entrances to deliver a QR code to the mobile for scanning at the entry gates.

The final trial was conducted for 50% of the tickets distributed to the general public for the 2018 UEFA Europa League final between Atlético and Marseille in Lyon.

Following the successful ticketing with the new system, UEFA will plans to continue to develop the system further, with the aim of using it at future events.
