After making the world's first blockchain-powered point-of-sale (XPOS) device, Singapore-based blockchain project Pundi X has now showcased the first ever phone call made on the blockchain at the ongoing XBlockchain Summit at the Inaya Putri, Bali.

The phone call was made on the newest device known as the XPhone, using the new Function X blockchain-based OS and communication protocol for mobile devices developed by Pundi X. Function X will be transformational to blockchain as the browser is to the Internet.

The trial demo units of the XPhone were displayed to journalists and attendees at the summit. Blockchain-based calling and messaging can be toggled on and off on the phone operating system, which builds upon Android 9.0.

The device allows users to make calls, send messages and transmit data via a fully decentralized blockchain ecosystem, with users having exclusive control over the data they share.

Users can route phone calls and messages via blockchain nodes without the need for phone numbers or a centralized mobile carrier.

The XPhone OS is currently available to phone manufacturers for testing. The Function X blockchain, FXTP, IPFX, and XPhone will be officially launched in the second quarter of 2019.

Pundi X is one of the few crypto and blockchain projects that focuses on creating real life use cases of digital assets.
