Pacific Sunwear August same-store sales down - Update

Thursday, specialty retailer Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. (PSUN) said its same-store sales for the month of August decreased 6%.

Sales for the four weeks period declined 4% to $163.1 million from $170 million in the same period of last year.

For the first 30 weeks of fiscal 2008, Pacific Sunwear's comparable store sales dropped 2%. Sales for the period were $742.7 million, a slight decrease from $749.9 million in the previous year.

In August, the company recorded a second quarter net income of $2.80 million or $0.04 per share, compared to a loss of $10.50 million or $0.15 per share in 2007. Income from continuing operations decreased to $3.71 million or $0.06 per share from $9.26 million or $0.13 per share in the prior-year quarter. Quarterly sales improved 0.3% to $312.73 million from $311.78 million in the comparable quarter of last year. However, same-store sales declined 1% from last year.

PSUN closed Wednesday's regular trading session at $6.90.
