BGR Energy Bags Rs,4,900 Cr. EPC Contract In Rajasthan

Wednesday, BGR Energy Systems Ltd., manufacturer of capital goods and executor of turnkey engineering projects, announced that the company has bagged the largest ever EPC contract for Rs.4,900 crores from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd or RRVUNL for the 2 x 600MW Kalisindh Thermal Power Project at Jhalawar, Rajasthan.

The company's scope of supply includes design, engineering, supply of boiler, steam turbine generator and complete balance of plant equipment inclusive of all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control systems and civil, structural and architectural works, necessary for putting the thermal power station into operation.

This project will have two of Asia's tallest natural draft cooling towers. These cooling towers will be designed and built by the company in-house. This project will be a zero discharge power station meeting the stringent environmental standards.

The Chennai-based company said this project would be completed within a period of 42 months.

RRVUNL invited international competitive bidding for this project and BGR Energy and BHEL were qualified. BGR Energy emerged as the successful bidder for this project.

In July 2008, BGR Energy secured similar EPC contract valued Rs.3,100 crores from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board or TNEB for the expansion of the existing 4 x 210 MW thermal power plant at Mettur in Tamil Nadu.

The company disclosed that its order book swelled more than threefold and now stands over Rs.11,000 crores, which include four BoP contracts of 500MW and two EPC contracts of 600MW units and contracts of oil & gas equipment sector projects and orders for products.

The company clocked consolidated net profit of Rs.88 crores on total revenue of Rs.1,526 crores for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2008.

At the BSE, BGR Energy shares are currently trading at Rs.249.00, up by Rs.30.50 or 13.96% on volume of 6.26 lakh shares.
