(RTTNews) - Maruti. Tata Motors and Hyundai Motors recorded a higher growth in sales in October, backed by new launches, festive demand, as also availability of better finance. On the export front, Maruti had an edge over Tata Motors and Hyundai.
Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. reported total sales in October 2009, including export of 85,415 vehicles, up 32% from the 64,490 units last year. In the domestic market, the company reported sales of 71,551 units, up 21% from 59,127 units in the corresponding month last year.
Sales of company's flagship model Maruti 800 declined 6% to 3,124 units from 3,307 units sold in October last year. The company's export sales surged 159% to 13,864 units from 5,363 units in October 2008.
During the first seven months of this fiscal, the company's total sales, including exports, were 558,332 units, up 25% from 446,525 units in the corresponding period last year.
During last months, Maruti Suzuki launched the new SX4 sedan with an engine powered by advanced VVT technology. The company has also introduced a 4-speed automatic transmission variant of the new SX4.
Tata Motors
In October, total sales for Tata Motors, including exports, were 53,404 units, up 34% from 39,729 units sold in October 2008. Cumulative sales, including exports, rose 7% to 326,895 units from 305,438 units in April-Oct. last year.
Sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market were 30,541 units, 59% higher than 19,154 units sold in October last year, while passenger vehicle sales and the distribution off-take in the domestic market were 22,232, up 28% from 17,378 vehicles sold in the preceding year.
Export sales last month fell 20% to 2,852 vehicles from 3,561 vehicles in the corresponding month last year.
The company said the Jaguar Land Rover sales continued their upward trend since launch in June.
Hyundai Motors
Hyundai Motor India Ltd, or HMIL continued its strong performance in the domestic market in October this year. The exports, however, witnessed a decline.
HMIL's total sales for October stood at 51,736 units, up 11% from 46,596 units in last October. The domestic sales grew at a healthy 41% and accounted for 28,301 units, compared with 20,009 units for the same month a year-ago, while the overseas sales fell to 23,435 units. The export had registered 26,587 units of sale in October, 2008, a drop of 12%.
Commenting on October, 2009 sales, Sr. Vice President - Marketing and Sales Arvind Saxena, said, "The festive period of the last two months generated strong sales and has given the Indian automobile industry some respite from the sluggish performance of the last few months and now it looks that this period of strong sales would propel the industry in to a positive double digit growth for the remainder of the year. This might be the turning point the Indian automotive industry has been waiting for".
