The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said its divers have found the body of one of two US soldiers believed to have drowned while on a mission in western Afghanistan last week.

CNN said family members of the army soldier, Benjamin Sherman, 21, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, identified the recovered body.

Sherman, belonging to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, may have tried to help his struggling comrade when both got caught up in the current, the military told his family.

The two paratroopers, who went missing last Wednesday, are believed to have died while recovering supplies dropped by ISAF aircraft that had fallen into the Morghan River in Badghis province, a remote area bordering Turkmenistan.

An ISAF statement Wednesday said Afghan and international forces are continuing search for the other serviceman.

An ISAF air strike accidentally killed seven Afghan soldiers and wounded five US servicemen, who were taking part in the search operation last Friday, according to the Afghan army .

Mostly, U.S. and Italian contingents are operating in the west of the country.
