(RTTNews) - Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., or BHEL, said it had secured a major order for Rs.5,600 crore from Prayagraj Power Generation Company Ltd., or PPGCL, a company owned by Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. The contract is for setting up the upcoming 1,980 MW Prayagraj Thermal Power Project at Bara in Uttar Pradesh, with Supercritical parameters, involving three units of 660 MW each.
BHEL's scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbines, generators and boilers, along with associated auxiliaries, besides state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation.
The New Delhi-based company said the supercritical technology ensures lower coal consumption, minimum emission, eco-friendly and efficient power generation. BHEL has been promoting joint venture companies to build, own and operate supercritical thermal power plants in association with state utilities like Tamil Nadu Electricity Board or TNEB, Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd., or KPCL, and Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd., or MSPGCL.
JAL, a company under the Jaiprakash Group, bagged this project from the UP Govt. under tariff-based bidding and PPGCL, the company formed by the UP Govt. for the purpose was
subsequently acquired by JAL.
BHEL said it had upgraded its technology base from sub-critical sets to supercritical sets of 660/800MW and above. The company has ongoing collaboration agreements with Alstom, France and Siemens, Germany, with a technology transfer arrangement, which will enable the country to be self-reliant in the field of supercritical thermal power plants.
BHEL last week inked a memorandum of understanding with Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company Ltd. or MPPGCL to set up a joint venture firm to build, own and operate a 2x800 MW thermal power plant with supercritical parameters at Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.
At the BSE, BHEL shares are currently trading at Rs.2,238.00, down by Rs.19.85 or 0.88% on a volume of around 73K shares. The scrip touched an intraday high of Rs.2,265.00 and a low of Rs.2,235.00.
