(RTTNews) - Intel Corp.'s (INTC:
News ) wholly owned subsidiary Wind River and Kontron, a provider of embedded systems and solutions, Tuesday revealed a global, multi-year agreement under which Kontron will distribute Wind River products, VxWorks and Linux operating systems. The decade-long collaboration is expected to extend the software and service offerings of Wind River and Kontron.
The distribution agreement would enable Kontron resell VxWorks production licenses and work with Wind River to proliferate Wind River Linux for use by joint customers. Meanwhile, Wind River will continue to provide hardware and software tools, development environments, source code and support contracts for joint customers.
The two companies will initially target industrial, medical, military and aerospace, transportation, and networking market segments.
Wind River noted that Kontron will join the Wind River Partner Validation Program, which offers a pre-integrated software and hardware ecosystem, to solve the increasingly important business issues of reducing time-to-market, achieving cost savings, and realizing successful project deployment. Kontron's nanoETXexpress-SP module, validated for use with VxWorks 6.7, is listed as an embedded module in the Program.
The new agreement is also expected to help both companies to more quickly respond to new design win opportunities in a number of key vertical market segments.
INTC is currently trading at $19.45, up 0.05 or 0.26%, on a volume of 24.26 million shares on the Nasdaq.
