(RTTNews) - Information technology outsourcing services provider Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC: News ) said Wednesday that it signed a ten-and-a-half year master service agreement with Zurich Financial Services Group having a potential value of $2.9 billion.

The Falls Church, Virginia-based CSC noted that the master service agreement provides the framework for country specific data center and information technology infrastructure managed services agreements to be subsequently entered into by the local entities of each party. The master service agreement will become effective upon the signing of the first country specific agreement.

The contract covers global data center centralization and server virtualization and is designed to transform Zurich's existing data center environment into a fully modernized, flexible and highly virtualized operation.

Under the terms of the agreement, depending on the country specific agreements entered into, up to approximately 1,000 Zurich employees will potentially transition to CSC during the first half of 2010.

The company indicated that the potential total contract value has been estimated assuming the successful negotiation of all anticipated country specific agreements and the provision of the full scope of services in all the planned countries over the initial ten and a half year term.
Services are expected to commence under the master service agreement and one or more country specific agreements in the first half of 2010.

All of the agreements are subject to regulatory and other approvals and notifications, including consultation of relevant workers councils.

CSC noted that the relationship between Zurich and the company began in July 2004 when the companies signed a seven-year $1.3 billion applications outsourcing contract.

CSC is trading at $55.40, up $0.23 or 0.42%, on a volume of about 159 thousand shares.

Hopes of Diffusion of European Debt Crisis May Lead to Some Bargain Hunting
The major U.S. index futures are pointing to a higher opening on Tuesday, with European debt concerns receding following indications from European Commission officials that they may step in to save Greece from getting mired in the debt crisis. Commodity prices are extending their gains and this coupled with the oversold levels of the markets may support a bounce back. Given the fact that the wholesale inventories report to be released after the markets close is not market moving, the markets may derive support from hopes that the economic revival may not lose steam despite the surrounding uncertainty.
