(RTTNews) - The National Football League confirmed this week that the
Who will perform during halftime of the Super Bowl. The appearance was reported earlier this month, but the announcement made the show official.
Super Bowl XLIV is scheduled for February 7 at Dolphin Stadium in South Florida.
Previous halftime performers have included
Bruce Springsteen and the
E Street Band,
U2, and
Tom Petty and the
Heartbreakers. More than 151 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year's show. This year's Super Bowl and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide in more than 230 countries and territories.
The Who were inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990 after selling more than 100 million records worldwide. The British band has had 27 top-forty singles in the United States and United Kingdom, along with 17 Top Ten albums.
Their last album,
Endless Wire, was their first full-length album of new material in almost 20 years.
