Parrotheads worldwide are rejoicing this week over today's release of Jimmy Buffett's first studio album since 2006.
The new release, titled Buffet Hotel, takes its name from a renowned hotel/train station in Bamako, Mali, where Buffett recently spent time during the Festival au Désert music festival.
The disc includes several tracks that Buffett has already debuted live, including "Surfing in a Hurricane," "A Lot to Drink About" and "Summerzcool." The album is available on Buffett's official website, Margaritaville.com.
"I actually didn't go to the desert with the pre-conceived notion of returning with an album," Buffett said in a statement. "I went looking for stories . . . The story that sparked the song 'Buffet Hotel,' which eventually turned into the title track and name of this album, began the minute we set foot on the patio of the infamous Hotel De La Gare Buffet in the Bamako train station, better known as Le Buffet Hotel."
The Buffet Hotel is a colonial-era train station/hotel where Mali's music scene flourished after the country won its independence in 1960.
"It's like visiting the Opry of Africa," Buffett said of the hotel. Jimmy Buffett's Buffet Hotel tracklisting is below. 1. "Nobody from Nowhere"
