While his bandmates are going ahead with auditions for a replacement singer, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler made a surprise appearance at the Tilted Kilt pub in Palm Desert, California, this week to sing karaoke.

This marked his first public appearance since checking into rehab for abuse of prescription medications.

A DJ at the pub reported that Tyler arrived at the event with a management team, including two bodyguards and a publicist, who said that Tyler wasn't going to sing and no photos would be allowed.

However, Tyler offered to take the stage when two fans who were attempting a song were booed off. He sang Aerosmith's 1998 hit "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing."

The event's organizer, Mike May, told the local newspaper, The Desert Sun, that Tyler was "very gracious and very kind".

Aerosmith are currently looking for a replacement singer to take Tyler's place on tour in 2010 while Tyler completes his rehab treatment.
