After kicking off this year's Super Bowl by singing the National Anthem, Carrie Underwood will now be featured in the upcoming film Soul Surfer.

The movie is based on the story of Bethany Hamilton, the teen surfer whose left arm was severed by a tiger shark in October 2003. The country singer, 26, will take on the role of Sarah Hill, a youth counselor at Hamilton's church, in the film.

According to People, Underwood will join a cast that includes Anna Sophia Robb, who play Hamilton, and Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt, who will play her parents.

This will not be Underwood's first attempt at acting, however. The American Idol season four winner recently finished filming her guest-starring appearance on How I Met Your Mother.

The guest spot is due to air sometime in March, while Soul Surfer is shooting for a summer release.
