South Korea Monday said it planned to enhance nuclear cooperation with India which would see exchange of more personnel and pave the way for a joint partnership in building atomic reactors.

South Korea's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said the exchange was a continuation of the proposals-- enhanced contact between nuclear experts and sharing of vital information--put forward during the Seoul-New Delhi summit held last month.

According to the Ministry, six engineers from India's Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) are currently on a four-day visit to South Korea and they are scheduled to attend a seminar on general atomic energy policies, safety and research and development efforts to be held in Seoul on Wednesday.

The Indian team's other engagements include a meeting with officials of state-run companies such as Korea Electric Power Corp., Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and Korea Nuclear Fuel Co.

They are also likely to visit Doosan Heavy Industry and Construction Co engaged in the fabrication of APR1400 reactors and the Gori nuclear power plant in Busan where work on reactors ordered by the United Arab Emirates was fast progressing.

South Korea is aspiring to become one of the world's top three exporters of nuclear energy by 2030 and is also trying to make its presence felt by seeking a sizeable market share in emerging economies like India, Turkey and Jordan. Presently, it runs 20 commercial reactors and ranks sixth overall in the world in terms of power generation.

A South Korean team of experts is expected to pay a return visit to India early next month.
