Oklahoma City will go "extreme" next month when Science Museum Oklahoma will host the Extreme Sports Expo. The event will kick off September 3 and will feature two extreme sports films on the museum's IMAX screen, as well as displays from many of the area's extreme sports retailers.
The event is spearheaded by Science Museum's Brett Mahoney, an academic networking coordinator who is also an extreme sports nut. In an interview with the Oklahoman, Mahoney explains that there is a lot of practice, and science, involved in "going extreme."
"You don't just get on a skateboard, and you don't just get on a surfboard. It takes a lot of practice," he explains, adding that the museum is always "looking for unique ways to communicate with the public."
Featured IMAX films will include "Extreme," which shows off many aspects of extreme sports, and "Everest," about climbers on the world's highest peak.
