Idera Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (IDRA), a biotechnology company, announced on Monday preclinical results from novel Toll-like Receptor, or TLR, antagonist candidates for the treatment of lung inflammation and psoriasis.

The first study, which evaluated a TLR antagonist candidate for its anti-inflammatory activity in ovalbumin, or OVA,-induced lung inflammation in mice, suggests that TLR antagonists may have the potential to treat lung inflammatory diseases.

Results from the study showed significant reductions in parameters of inflammatory response, including production of IL-5, IL-13, IgE, and decreased numbers of inflammatory cells and mucin secreting cells in the lungs compared to mice treated with OVA alone.

Results from another study, which evaluated a TLR antagonist in a mouse model of psoriasis induced by administration of recombinant murine IL-23, demonstrated dose-dependent reductions in markers of IL-23-induced psoriasis, including epidermal hyperplasia, inflammatory cell infiltration, and IL-6 induction in dermal tissues, compared to mice treated with IL-23 alone.

Idera Pharma's stock is currently trading at $13.55, down 56 cents or 3.97%.
