Tuesday, Panacos Pharmaceuticals Inc. (PANC) reported that the Phase 2b prospective study of the company's HIV maturation inhibitor, bevirimat in treatment-experienced and treatment-naïve patients confirmed the recently discovered factors that predict response to bevirimat.
Patients with the predictors of response and treated with bevirimat for 14 days of treatment had a statistically significant higher mean viral load reduction than patients with polymorphisms at Gag amino acid positions 369, 370 or 371.
In addition, all patients achieved the target blood level required for optimal response with the 300mg bevirimat dose administered.
